Technical Assistance to Support Malawi in Bilateral and Regional Trade Negotiations

Location: Malawi , Malawi

The overall objective of the project of which this contract will be a part is to enhance the capacity of Malawi Government in the formulation, negotiation and implementation of bilateral and regional trade Agreements, particularly the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AFCTA), the Tripartite Free Trade Area (TFTA), the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA). These objectives fall under the confines of an overarching goal in the negotiations of increasing Malawi’s economic integration in the regional and international trading system.
The specific objectives of the assignment are as follows:
  • Enhance the understanding of and the impact of trade agreements for informed negotiation positions;
  • Enhance trade in services negotiations and exports of services;
  • Enhance stakeholder 'trade policy dialogue' for strong negotiation positions; and
  • Enhance Government of Malawi’s capacity to formulate, negotiate and implement trade policies and strategies.
