The main objectives of this technical assistance (CATCO) of four (4 years) are:

Contribute to the protection and sustainable development of the exceptional biodiversity of the Garamba, Salonga, Upemba and Virunga National Parks and the Yangambi Biosphere Reserve;
Encourage and promote sustainably agricultural production, forestry and ecosystem services for the benefit of the socio-economic development of the populations bordering National Parks;
Mitigate the deforestation of natural ecosystems, the main cause of climate change, and increase carbon sequestration through the action of protection, enhancement and sustainable management of natural resources in and around National Parks.

CATCO support has two specific roles:

an institutional and administrative role to meet the needs of the ministries, COFED, by strengthening the ownership by the administrations concerned and to ensure that the program implementation is in line with the objectives of the financing convention.
a technical role to meet the technical needs: i) operators (CIFOR, African Parks Networks, WWF DRC, Virunga Foundation) on the Planning-Monitoring-Evaluation system (analysis, planning, capitalization, decision), and ii) decision-makers to support strategic analysis and formulation of long-term investments.
